Cookie Basics
- What is a cookie?
- A very small text file placed on your hard drive by a web server. It is essentially your identification card, and cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. It is uniquely yours and can only be read by the server that gave it to you. It serves its purpose each time you return to SCG’s web site by identifying you to the site, allowing it to be configured to better present information to you.
- How does registering with SCG’s web site and taking a cookie help you?
- It saves you time. You do not have to spend time logging in and out of individual SCG applications or reconfiguring an application each time you open it. If you have already defined SCG application accounts, it will allow all of the SCG applications that you regularly use to recognize you and to be configured to your specifications.
- How does a cookie help SCG?
- It allows us to be more efficient. It helps us focus your web experience to better serve our customers and visitors. What kinds of information does this cookie contain? The cookie contains information about your particular web site and web application customizations. It does not contain any personal or corporate information about you or your company.
- How can I set up my browser to accept cookies?
- You can order your browser to accept all cookies or to alert you every time a cookie is offered. Then you can decide whether to accept one or not.
